Our shareholders are our greatest allies in our sustainability push. We foster open communication with them and ensure their access to our information.
We combine attractive, predictable and sustainable shareholder remuneration with reinvestment of our profits in the Company's present and future growth, which is key to be able to continue to push for the sustainable transformation of the sector.
In 2021, we attended to over 800 requests from different individual shareholders for information about the company through the Shareholder Office.
Our shareholder remuneration policy, approved at Inditex’s Annual General Meeting, is designed to provide an attractive, predictable and sustainable dividend, aligned with the Company’s growth. Framed by that policy, in May and November 2021, we paid out a dividend totalling €0.70 per share from our 2020 profits. The Company paid its shareholders €2.18 billion of dividends from 2020 profits in 2021.
Inditex’s Board of Directors will submit a motion for the payment of a €0.93 per share dividend from 2021 profits at the next Annual General Meeting. The proposed payment will consist of an ordinary dividend of €0.63 and an extraordinary dividend of €0.30 per share, payable in two equal instalments of €0.465 per share, the first on 2 May 2022 and the second on 2 November 2022. Inditex’s dividend policy consists of an ordinary dividend based on a payout ratio of 60%, topped up by extraordinary dividends.
As demanded by its shareholders, Inditex is traded as part of a series of benchmark indices that track its earnings performance as well as its sustainability practices.
- Inditex has been part of the benchmark European index, Euro STOXX 50, since 2011 and Spain’s blue chip index, the IBEX-35, since 2001.
- The FTSE4Good sustainability index, which has included Inditex since October 2002, gave the Company a score of 4.9 out of 5 in 2021.
- The Dow Jones Sustainability Index analyses the sustainability records of listed companies in a total of 61 business sectors. In 2021, our Company obtained a score of 75 out of 100 on the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (assessment date: 12 November 2021), ranking Inditex in the 98th percentile in the retail sector.
