Fiscal responsability and transparency

Our commitment to society means we work relentlessly to have a positive impact and implies strict compliance with our tax obligations, in turn helping to create value and drive economic and social development in our communities.

In 2021, Inditex’s total tax contribution amounted to €6.09 billion, of which €2.42 billion was paid directly, a further €3.67 billion of indirect taxes were collected on behalf of third parties in the Company’s various markets. The Group’s effective tax rate was 22.6% of overall earnings in 2021.

Inditex pays tax on the earnings it generates in all of the markets where it does business. Its tax obligations are diverse. Given the lack of uniformity in tax regulations from one market to the next, Inditex's tax management strategy is based on upholding best practices in each jurisdiction.

As its country of domicile, Spain is home to Inditex’s main product activities and its primary tax obligations. That is why Spain accounts for the biggest share of the Group’s direct tax contribution (but just 14.4% of total revenue). More specifically, in 2021, Spain accounted for a tax contribution of €1.5 billion, equivalent to 25% of its worldwide contribution.
